Solid wall insulation can dramatically improve the comfort of an old home and cut fuel costs significantly. There are two methods: external (EWI) and internal (IWI). EWI wraps the home in an insulating blanket, and IWI places the insulation behind the plaster in each room.
Costs and Benefits
The cost of the measure depends on the amount of wall that can be insulated. A typical mid-terrace house will cost around £8,000, and an end-terrace or semi-detached house £12,000; every home is different and costs can vary. You could save £400 or more each year*.
Materials and Guarantee
All solid wall insulation in housing done by ecologic-energy uses materials approved by the BBA, the UK’s body responsible for testing and approving materials. ecologic-energy is also accredited by the BBA as a PAS2030 installer. The completed works are guaranteed for 25 years through the Solid Wall Insulation Guarantee Agency, SWIGA.
EWI for a typical home takes about 2 weeks to complete. IWI will disrupt a room whilst being installed, but can be done room by room. Watch the short video showing how EWI is installed.
